When Poor Richard Web Press
was formed in 1996, its first customer was a non-profit
organization with no web site. There was no
intention of making any profit from this customer as the
museum, the
Calvert Marine Museum, did so much good for the
region. Poor Richard Web Press volunteered to
create and maintain the site at no cost and continues
this effort today. In fact, we perform the same pro-bono
work for two other non-profit organizations.
Why is this important?
The more cynical may say it is just a way of
attaining recognition or that it is some kind of
marketing ploy. Other successful businesses may
say that it is a great way of attaining recognition and
a wonderful marketing method. Both are interesting
thoughts.
In his book,
Rich Dad's Guide to Investing,
Robert Kiyosaki stresses the importance of giving
more to your customers and other people.
As
Richard Carlson puts it in
Don't Worry, Make Money, "...any success you
might have is despite your lack of giving and not
because of it. Giving is an energy that not only helps
others, it creates even more for the giver."
With this in mind, Poor
Richard Web Press has partnered with
First Book, a national
nonprofit organization providing children from
low-income families the opportunity to read and own
their first new books. Ten percent of earnings from books
purchased from this site go entirely to First Book.
As sales increase, we hope to increase this percentage
as well.
Marketing ploy, or the
increased ability to give more? You decide. Either
way, please visit
First
Book, even if you decide to purchase your books
somewhere else.
