Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Kim Smith-Author
Kim Smith - Author

On the day that James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth sailed into Lyme Bay accompanied by eighty-one men intent on taking the crown from Monmouth's uncle, the term "Duking Days" was born. Many rebels were routed in the 1685 Battle of Sedgemoor, including Scott himself who was taken prisoner.

Helena Woulfe, with her mother Elizabeth, and her brother Henry are sent away from their family home, Loxsbeare, once it is learned that her father, Sir Jonathan and brother, Aaron, have fared the worst in the attack at Sedgemoor. Helena sets out to find them, only to discover a cold, cruel existence outside of her former privileged life.

Anita Davison has given an awesome reenacting of the era surrounding this troubled time in the last battle on English soil. Using actual historical events, she weaves a rich tapestry transcending time and space, taking the reader on a slow trip through the countryside and a peek into its dangers.
