It's hard for me to be enthusiastic about books with female lead characters set in Medieval times. Basically, you had kids and died. Healthcare, cleanliness, most food, heat, water--so many things we take for granted was not available for any amount of money. Once said, this book handles an emphasis on romance with two compelling and fairly pleasant lead characters. I have mixed feelings about this book. Some things were good, like the heroine's spirit the growing attraction between them. But at times it seemed that passion is all there is between them. And the fact that he would kill her if his king told him to didn't help. How could a woman fall in love if she knew that any day the man she is falling in love with might kill her?
