This is an excellent book to read!! It has an excellent story line and it is very well written. The Author leaves you on the edge of your seat at the end of every chapter. Most of the time we had to read ahead because the suspense was just to much to handle. This included all of us - The husband too!!
Mr. Ytreeide does an excellent job of weaving in the Gospel Message as well. He makes an excellent word picture for young children to understand.
I would recommend this for any time ... Read More

For my 8 yr. old & 6 yr. old daughters, this was a fantastic read, and each night they couldn't wait to hear more about Jotham. We had to make sure and clarify that this was realistic fiction with them every week or so, but they loved it!! It's a great gift idea for a family, and a wonderful way to remember Jesus every night before Christmas. This story really makes you consider all the "behind the scenes" characters in the Bible who were waiting to meet this King, the Lord & Savior who began just ... Read More

I am an adult and read this the same time my sisters read it to their children.
We are all in different cities and this was a great way to feel connected during the holidays. I thought it a little violent for some of the children (ages range of nieces and nephews 4-11) but everyone seamed to do fine. The thought provoking lessons are good for ages 4-104. I understand their are other books in the series---I look forward to next year.
P.S. I must admit that I was so intrigued I sometimes read ... Read More

See my review of Bartholomew's Passage. This is another book in the series. In each book, however, the characters meet along various parts of the story-line which ties the years together neatly... Once again my children look forward to our read aloud time and discussion. We have all learned new, historical perspectives surrounding the birth of Christ, and the To Think About Questions have been appropriate for every member of our family.
I recommend purchasing soon as these books have been out of print ... Read More

This is an excellent book. It is written in such a way that every chapter ends with a cliffhanger. There are very few books that my children have begged me to keep reading to them. This is one of them. Every chapter ends with a paragraph focusing on the lesson learned by Jothem in that chapter and redirecting it back to what he should have done, and what christ wants us to do.
