I happened onto this obscure and long out of print autobiographical piece and wasn't even sure I wanted to invest the time to read it but, as an old Navy vet and submariner, I thought it might be interesting. I read it. WOW!!
This guy (author Joseph Karneke) seems to have no ego, and has courage of biblical proportions (in Navy vernacular: His must be brass and the size of grapefruits).

It's been a while since I read this book, but remember details as if was yesterday. It didn't inspire me to be a hardhat diver, cutting away anti-submarine nets in the Golden Gate, spending hours in a de-compression chamber, or talking like Donald Duck in a heliox atmosphere, but the events related by Joe Karneke stimulated me to learn more about them in the years to come.
