Editorial Review:

Product Description:

Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively, and by listening very closely to the words of his master, Denny Swift, an up-and-coming race car driver.

Through Denny, Enzo has gained tremendous insight into the human condition, and he sees that life, like racing, isn't simply about going fast. Using the techniques needed on the race track, one can successfully navigate all of life's ordeals.

On the eve of his death, Enzo takes stock of his life, recalling all that he and his family have been through: the sacrifices Denny has made to succeed professionally; the unexpected loss of Eve, Denny's wife; the three-year battle over their daughter, Zoë, whose maternal grandparents pulled every string to gain custody. In the end, despite what he sees as his own limitations, Enzo comes through heroically to preserve the Swift family, holding in his heart the dream that Denny will become a racing champion with Zoë at his side. Having learned what it takes to be a compassionate and successful person, the wise canine can barely wait until his next lifetime, when he is sure he will return as a man.

A heart-wrenching but deeply funny and ultimately uplifting story of family, love, loyalty, and hope, The Art of Racing in the Rain is a beautifully crafted and captivating look at the wonders and absurdities of human life . . . as only a dog could tell it.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - One Book You Won't Forget

I just loved "The Art of Racing in the Rain". It was difficult to put down and I hated for the story to end. I really love dogs, but even if you never had a dog, or don't particularly like them, this story is much more than a story told by a dog. It affects you in positive ways, and also makes you think and ponder about life itself. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I love my dogs--I loved this book
What a wonderful read. A simple yet profound story about two simple, yet profound beings, one a dog and one a man. Enzo is a dog any human would be blessed to have; Denny is a man we can all look up to. Great story. Sweet lessons learned. The car goes where the eyes go. Bring the tissues. See you next life.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great tear jerker
Okay, I'm not a weepy person and I can't remember the last time a book made me cry, but I sobbed at the end of this one. I'm not particularly a dog person or a car person, but this book really captured the angst and the joy of life. A great read.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - delightful read
What a charming story! Actually three stories in one: the world according to Enzo, the challenges and delights of racing cars, and the story of one man who is trying, against all odds, to keep his family together. Before picking up this book I had struggled with Brown's "Lost Symbol" and this book reinstated my belief that reading is a wonderful pasttime. Both the dog and his owner are admirable characters. The book celebrates the good in humans - the compassion, the caring, the love for fellow ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - An Absolute Must Read!
This book was the first in a VERY long time that has gripped me from page 1. Told by a dog, it's filled with the fun loving ridiculousness you would expect your 4 pawed friends to think about. But it also takes us down a journey of heartbreak, depression, and turmoil.

It teaches us to endure and to never stop dreaming. It makes points that we could all do better to try to understand and adopt, philosophies that many of us have probably never contemplated. But it's in no way written ... Read More
